Why are they Required?
Electrical appliances can look safe on the outside while hiding dangerous faults inside. Without regular testing, damaged cables, loose connections, or worn components can go unnoticed—until they cause electric shocks, fires, or costly downtime. Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) helps you identify and fix these risks before they put people or property in danger.

Under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, employers, landlords, and duty holders have a legal responsibility to ensure all electrical equipment provided for use is maintained in a safe condition. PAT testing is the recognised and documented way to prove you’re fulfilling that duty.

But it’s not just about ticking boxes for compliance—it’s about protecting your team, your customers, and your reputation. PAT testing gives you clear evidence that your appliances are safe, reducing the risk of accidents, enforcement action, fines, or invalidated insurance.

At SJH Safety Solutions, we don’t just help you meet the minimum requirements—we help you set the standard for electrical safety, giving you peace of mind that your workplace or property is compliant, safe, and well managed.

How do we do them?
At SJH Safety Solutions, every PAT test is carried out by fully trained and qualified professionals using calibrated test equipment and working to the latest IEE Code of Practice. We understand that no two sites are the same, which is why we tailor our approach to suit your environment—whether you’re managing an office, workshop, rental property, or multi-site operation.

We begin with a thorough visual inspection of each appliance, looking for signs of wear, damage, or misuse. This includes checking plugs, fuses, cables, and casings. Once visually approved, we carry out a series of electrical safety tests appropriate to the class of equipment—such as earth continuity, insulation resistance, and functionality checks.

Each tested item is:

-
Clearly labelled with a pass or fail result
-
Assigned a unique asset ID number
-
Recorded in a digital log for reporting and retesting purposes

You’ll receive a detailed PAT Test Report and a Certificate of Compliance, listing every appliance tested along with its results, test date, and retest schedule. If any items fail, we’ll explain the issue clearly and advise on safe removal, repair, or replacement.

We work efficiently with minimal disruption to your operations—whether during business hours or after-hours—so you can stay compliant without slowing down.
With SJH Safety Solutions, PAT testing is done properly, professionally, and with your business needs in mind.
